A solo game project that I created for the local game jam, with the theme of humor!

This is a drinking game that combines Mao and Uno. It revolves around changing rules and trying to be the first person out while making as few mistakes as possible! Be careful; some cards will make you choose whether you drink or your opponents!

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Humor-Based Card Game with Safe Drinking Mechanics

01

The Goal

This solo project was created for my local game jam, which challenged me to produce a game that resonated with humor and introduced unique, engaging gameplay for an adult audience. Drawing inspiration from card games like “Mao” and “Uno,” which rely on unpredictable, player-created rules, I designed a fresh, modern interpretation that adds a lighthearted, safe-drinking component.

03

The Steps

Game Design

I taught myself Adobe Illustrator to produce the playing cards, creating minimalist yet visually appealing designs. This clean aesthetic allowed players to focus on the interactions and rules without distraction, reinforcing the game’s social and humorous elements.

02

Concept Development

The game Jam’s humor theme was initially challenging due to the subjective nature of comedy. I aimed to design a humorous yet replayable experience, avoiding typical humor-based gameplay tropes. Drawing inspiration from the spontaneous, rule-based chaos of “Mao,” I conceptualized a game with flexible rules tailored for adults that also introduces structured, responsible drinking mechanics. Unlike traditional drinking games, which often emphasize drinking as the main action, this design centers gameplay and humor, with drinking as a balanced, secondary element.

04

The Outcome

The game jam’s reception was overwhelmingly positive, with players expressing enthusiasm for both the unique gameplay and the balance of humor and mechanics. Completing this project from concept to final product was a pivotal experience, deepening my confidence as a designer and reinforcing my passion for game development.
